You can have a healthy, beautiful smile in less time and without anyone even noticing you are wearing orthodontic appliances. Explore Invisalign clear aligners with David A. Tripulas DDS in Wharton, TX.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign are innovative orthodontic aligners that are custom-made from perfectly clear, BPA-free acrylic. They look just like teeth whitening trays or thin athletic mouthguards but are so discreet only you and your dentist know about them.

Manufactured by Invisalign according to a three-dimensional scan and Dr. Tripula’s instructions, Invisalign aligners come in pairs–18 to 30 in all. The patient changes the pairs every two weeks. The appliances gradually move teeth into better looking and functioning positions, treating mild to moderate orthodontic issues, including:

  • Gaps
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite
  • Overjet (protruding front teeth)
  • Crowding
  • Tooth rotation

Because the aligners are fully removable, patients enjoy simpler oral hygiene, no dietary restrictions and may remove their appliances for special events such as weddings and job interviews. Unlike people who wear metal or ceramic braces, patients do not develop irritations on soft oral tissues because the aligners fit snugly over top and bottom teeth and are totally smooth.

Plus, when patients check in with Dr. Tripulas every four to six weeks, there are no complex or complicated adjustments to endure. They simply pick up their next pairs of aligners and wear them according to their treatment plans.

Invisalign patients wear their aligners 20 to 22 hours per day to keep treatment progressing. Some aligners have compliance tabs which tell patient, dentist and parents if aligners are worn for the prescribed time daily. Oral hygiene is easy. Patients remove their aligners, clean with a soft brush and non-abrasive toothpaste, and replace them. Patients brush and floss as usual.

What’s the Average Treatment Time?

Orthodontic correction with metal bracket and wire braces takes 2 to 2-½ years or more. Very complex cases may take even longer.

Treatment with Invisalign is shorter–typically 9 to 18 months with 12 months being average. For instance, a high school student could start her Invisalign treatment the summer before her senior year and show off a new smile in time for her prom in June. It can be that fast, and results are amazing.

After treatment, Dr. Tripulas encourages patients to wear customized Vivera retainers from Invisalign. These comfortable appliances keep smiles straight and protect the time and money patients and their families have invested.
